Chapter 7

Lily stretched out on her bed as she gazed up at the ceiling. Just what had happened with Marcus? Never before had she ever seen him so mad about anything. Not even any of his breakups. So what if his friend hit on her a little. Lily doubted the guy was serious. After all, he thought she was with Marcus.

But that clearly didn’t matter at all to her stubborn best friend who just couldn’t seem to understand it was probably a joke. And Lily was annoyed with herself for opening her big mouth about it. So much for seducing Marcus. It was official. She was the worst seductress in history. No other woman got the man they were seducing mad by bringing up another guy.

She looked at her closed door and wondered if Marcus had gone to bed already. Maybe she should go apologize. Lily didn’t know what she should apologize for but hearing someone say sorry might make the guy feel better.

No. Bad idea. Lily shook her head. It was probably best to leave him alone for a little while.

A sudden yawn had her going into another stretch. It was clear what Lily needed to do was get washed up and go to bed. Save the next plan of attack for tomorrow. They didn’t have any plans for the day. Probably wouldn’t need any since she was sure they wouldn’t need to fake date anymore now that Tiffany’s feelings about the whole thing came out.

Lily still wanted to laugh at what she overheard. Marcus having feelings for her were beyond ridiculous. If it were true, why was he dating all these other women instead of going out with her? Tiffany needed several screws in that pretty little head of hers.

Anyways, if she and Marcus stopped pretend dating then that would kind of but a bust to Lily’s plan of making him fall in love with her while pretending to date. It was kind of the only essential part of the whole thing working. Oh, well. She would just have to come up with something new. This wasn’t going to discourage her from getting what she wanted.

As she thought over that, Lily gathered the things need her shower before heading to the bathroom down the hall. While she went, she listened for any signs of life from Marcus’s room, which was across from hers but didn’t hear anything. Maybe he went to bed already. Sleeping was his favorite way to relax. Lily knew that from spending many afternoons taking naps together after exams. He always claimed it was for her benefit, but she knew he just secretly wanted to lay down on her memory foam mattress, the loser.

Another yawn had she rushing through the motions. In a matter of seconds, her skin and hair were fresh and she was in her pajamas. Using the foggy mirror, she threw her hair into a quick top knot before heading out the bathroom. Just before she reached her door, she was nearly toppled over by a new presence in the hall.

“Woah. Sorry, Lil.”

Lily gasped as she was pulled against Marcus’s body. His very topless body. She did her best not to stare at those hard muscles but it was a serious challenge. Who didn’t like rock hard chest and rippling abs? No drooling, Lily. No drooling.

“You’re not going to bed with your hair wet again, are you? This is why you constantly catch colds.”

That reminded her that she was currently dressed in her very unfalteringly large t-shirt and her favorite pair of SpongeBob boxers. It wasn’t like it was something that Marcus never saw her in. They had spent many nights watching movies together in their pajamas. But all that was before she planned on seducing him and, well, she couldn’t get any less attractive in the moment.

Which was why she was ripping herself away from that very tempting body and running into her bedroom. Lily leaned back against her closed door and covered her face with her hands. If she could, she would be kicking herself.

A knock on her door had Lily nearly jumping out of her skin. “You okay, cupcake?”

“Never better.” She called through the door. Except for the fact that she felt like hitting herself with a brick for not trying to look better. At least, she could have worn that cute white camisole Asia had bought her for her birthday, but of course, that thought hadn’t crossed her mind because she was a sucky seductress.

Lily waited by the door for his response but when it didn’t come she threw herself into bed. She rolled in it, muttering curses to herself for being so stupid. After nearly smothering herself in a pillow, she flopped on her back and found herself gazing at the ceiling once more. Life sucked… So, she just sighed and decided to get under her covers when her door opened and in walked Marcus.

“You ever hear of knocking?” She asked him as she sat up. Yeah, she was upset over her clothing options but there wasn’t much she could do about it now. He already saw her.

“I did. Earlier.” He sat on her bed with a blow-dryer in hand, leaning down to plug it into the power strip she had next to her nightstand. “Take your hair tie out so I can dry your hair for you.”

“I can do it myself…” Lily mumbled but did as he ordered anyway.

“I know you can, but I obviously can’t trust you to.”

He pulled her between his legs before turning on the hair tool. Hot air touched her scalp and neck as his fingers combed through her hair, separating the locks. Though Lily’s hair was definitely knotted in its condition, she felt minimum tugs on her hair as he dried it.

It was moments like these she enjoyed the most. Just the two of them together with no worries about appearance or acting in any way.

“Marc?”

“Yes, cupcake?” He answered as his hand continued to play with her hair.

“I love you.” The words left her lips before she could prevent herself from saying it.

His movement in her hair stopped for a moment, the sound of the hairdryer filling the silence between them. Lily was scared his reaction would be bad. But then she felt his lips pressing to the top of her head as he wrapped an arm around her from behind.

“I love you too, Lil.”

Lily didn’t know why she had even been scared because Marcus did love her, just not in the same way she loved him.
